If a nib leaves an ink trace considerably wider than the grind and the ink dries longer than specified in the reviews for a specific type of paper, then it’s too wet. It’s not only a matter of personal preference. I dare say, I haven’t come across a vintage Meisterstück which was too dry. On many of them I found the ink flow too generous. I’ve also tried dozens if vintage Meisterstucks and could have had any of them for a decent price, if I liked the way they wrote. I’ve had a 1952 MB 142 F, which was too wet, so don’t have it anymore.

These two pens have completely different writing qualities, but have the finest nibs I’ve come across in an MB. My 1974 MB 149 may be described as “perfect” in term of dry/wet balance, but as I’ve said before, it’s an architect grind. Ink flow control is nevertheless impecable. My 1949 MB 144 is slightly on the wetter side and I can imagine an ink with which it may qualify as wetter pen. It is a great experience, ain’t necessarily and universally so. I have never found Montblanc nibs to be wet.
